National Reso-Phonic Guitars was formed in the 1980's in San Luis Obispo, California and was dedicated to making the original National Stringed Instrument resonator guitars (invented in the 1920's) with the same sound and feel but with new looks and louder sounds. National guitars are used by slide players and finger pickers in Hawaiian, blues, country, bluegrass, fok and world music. National also makes ukuleles, mandolines, and custom instruments.
National's Style O resonator guitar, like the one below that Ken Cameron is holding, has a polished brass body etched with a traditional Hawaiian motif front and back as well as on a stripe along the side that is nickle plated. The maple neck has a slotted headstock with an ebony fingerboard bound in cross grain ivoroid. The tuners are three on a plate vintage style open gear. This is a goregeous guitar.
National Tri-cone guitars are made in many styles. The Style 1 is their most popular nickel plated, brass resonator guitar and is fashioned after the first metal body guitar offered by the original National company in 1927 with an Art Deco design.
Hilo Guitars and Ukuleles is the only dealer of National Reso-Phonic Guitars in the state of Hawaii. We carry a selection of National's resonator single-cone and tri-cone, acoustic and electric guitars.
