The world lost one of its greatest musicians today; John Martyn died at age 60.
For the last 37 years John's music has been constant companion to me through both sad and happy times in my life. I used to anticipate each new recording as most people used to anticipate a new Beatles record. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform numerous times live. The first was when he opened up for Traffic at the Rainbow Theatre in London in 1979 or 1980. And I had the pleasure of meeting him several times.
This morning I counted fifty CDs by John Martyn in my personal collection along with numerous DVDs and also his autobiography. Perhaps now attention will be focused on this great artist and he will finally receive the recognition that he deserves.
John your Music will always be in my heart. Thank you for the pleasure that you have brought me throughout my life. My world is a smaller place without you here on Earth.
